Time to stop throwing away those bags.

As people across the world continue to deal with life during lockdown, influencers and fashionistas are looking for new ways to look sharp. Apparently unable to go out and buy new clothes, some have been making new dresses out of what they have around the house (or, stuff they can still get their hands on).

It turns out, shopping bags are very common and, surprisingly, very fashionable.

The new trend has surfaced on Instagram, where users have been sharing posts about their creations using one of several hashtags, including "paper bag challenge," "paper bag dress" and "bag challenge."

Some users implied that the challenge was born out simply needing something to do while under lockdown, with one user captioning her photo, "I'm not bored, you are." The user also included the hashtag "living my best quarantine life" on the photo.

Not everyone used a brown paper bag. One user appeared to use a reusable grocery bag.

Reusable or not, some users are making very elaborate and realistic looking outfits out of their bags, while others appear to be taking the bags and hanging the handles around their necks.

This trend is similar to another recent fad wherein social media users wear duvets as if they were fancy dresses. that one, appropriately, is called the duvet challenge.

The creations have been trending on the platform all throughout April with the hashtags #QuarantineDuvetDress, #DuvetDress and #DuvetChallenge. Hilariously, some participants have even accessorized with pillows and toilet paper rolls as must-have handbags. Others got glam with sunglasses, heels and glasses of wine.

'Love will never be canceled' | Boutiques help brides find dresses virtually - WUSA9.com

After being forced to close their doors, bridal boutiques have had to reinvent themselves. Many are now offering virtual dress shopping appointments.

WASHINGTON — Brides are saying "yes to the dress'" from their couch. Physically many bridal boutiques across the country have been forced to close their doors. But many are still doing everything possible to keep their businesses alive, and their brides happy.

Carine's Bridal in Georgetown is still making the dress shopping process special virtually.

Basma Hatoum and her fiance are planning to get married in March of 2021. With the help of her stylist Brianna Abedi at Carine's Bridal, she was able to find her dress without stepping foot in the store.

"People have to get adjusted. I could cry and be upset and whine about it, but that's not going to help anything," Hatoum said.

It's the new wave of online bridal appointments during this pandemic.

"Once we were officially shut down, this was the best way to keep dress shopping alive and keep the momentum going," Abedi said.

The bride creates a wish list, picks out her favorites, then meets with her stylist on a few video calls. After that, the top dresses are sent home to the bride to try on.

"It's something to look forward to. Getting your package and trying on your dresses makes you feel normal," Hatoum said.

Lovely Bride DC offers the same service. So far, they have had 30 virtual appointments with at least six brides finalizing their wedding gowns.

"We send a huge box with the kit. We have our clips, our measuring tape, all the things we would do in store," said Danielle Anane, Lovely Bride DC manager.

Lovely Bride DC also plans to offer celebration appointments once it's safe to come back into the store. Brides can invite family and friends and try on their dress in person.

Both boutiques said these virtual appointments will continue in some form even after things go back to normal.

Gina's Bridal Boutique takes new approach to wedding dress shopping

MILFORD, Mich. – A bridal salon in Milford is improvising during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis to make sure women can still find their perfect wedding dresses.

Wedding dress shops are still closed, but as of right now, many summer weddings are still on, and those brides need their dresses. Gina's Bridal Boutique in Milford is taking going virtual to make sure women can still shop for a dress.

Kristen Hibner is looking for her fairy tale dress in preparation for her wedding in August.

"It's definitely not what I imagined when I was a little girl, trying on dresses," Hibner said.

Once Gina's Bridal Boutique was forced to shut down, owner Gina Salaski decided to to virtual.

"We have a virtual meeting where I show them the dresses on mannequins and they pick their top five," Salaski said. "Then, they can pick them up and take them home."

When the bride has the dresses, a Zoom call is scheduled with Salaski, the bride and some of the bride's friends to give their opinions.

The virtual process does take much longer, though.

"It's more time, but to be honest with you, if we can bring a little bit of joy and happiness to such a weird time and give people something to look forward to, then I'm happy to do it," Salaski said.

On a positive note, the bride is able to have her friends who live out of state be part of the process virtually.

Salaski said the virtual dress shopping has been very successful. So far, every bride who has gone through the process has found a dress, she said.
